Masking and Mental Health in Neurodivergent Young People

Recording of 'Masking and mental health in neurodivergent young people'

On 25 February 2026 People in Health West of England hosted an online Research Conversation with Laura Hull who is based in Bristol Medical School.

The ‘Masking and Mental Health in Neurodivergent Young People’ project aims to support young people who mask (also known as camouflaging, or hiding differences) their neurodivergence, such as autism or ADHD. We want to develop some freely available resources for young people and their families to use, to promote good mental health and give young people more control over their masking.

Dr Laura Hull is a Research Fellow in the Department of Population Health Studies, University of Bristol. Her research focuses on the mental health of neurodivergent people across the lifespan, with a particular interest in masking/camouflaging.

Research Conversations are informal sessions which are designed to give researchers and public contributors a chance to interact. Public contributors are encouraged to ask questions, learn about, and get involved in projects in their area.
